Milk Honey Butter Sandwich Bread

Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 packet yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter – melted and cooled
- 2/3 cup warm whole milk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3 1/4 cups bread flour – add more if too wet
- Egg wash – 1 egg and splash of water – Optional
Directions
- Warm the milk to lukewarm
- Add yeast and mix together all wet ingredients in a bowl.
- Whisk the egg before combining
- Add bread flour gradually and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Rest the dough covered for about 15 minutes.
- Continue kneading until the gluten has started to develop and the dough comes together.
- Add salt and knead for 2-3 more minutes until the dough passes a light windowpane test.
- Cover and let rise until doubled. About 1 hour.
- Gently shape into a loaf.
- Place into a buttered loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise until puffy but still slightly springy when pressed. 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350ºF.
- Slice 3 diagonal lines on the top of the loaf.
- Whisk the egg wash ingredients together and brush lightly over the loaf.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Cool in the pan for 5 minutes then remove and cool completely before slicing.
